The President's Position on "Gender Selection and Abortion."

TAPPER: The House is, I think, this afternoon preparing to take up a bill that would ban gender selection as a factor in abortions in this country. And I was wondering — I haven’t a statement of administration policy; I was wondering if the White House had a position on that?

CARNEY: I will have to take that as well. Been focused on other things, but I will get back to you.

Note: The White House got back to me this evening to say the president opposes the bill.

White House deputy press secretary Jamie Smith says in a statement: “The Administration opposes gender discrimination in all forms, but the end result of this legislation would be to subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine the motivations behind a very personal and private decision. The government should not intrude in medical decisions or private family matters in this way.”

Mary Ann Glendon and the Contraception Mandate

Here is an important article written by Mary Ann Glendon for the Wall Street Journal. It is important to read and know about the attack government is making on religious liberty. Wake up America!

This week Catholic bishops are heading to federal courts across the country to defend religious liberty. On Monday they filed 12 lawsuits on behalf of a diverse group of 43 Catholic entities that are challenging the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) sterilization, abortifacient and birth-control insurance mandate.

Like most Americans, the bishops have long taken for granted the religious freedom that has enabled this nation's diverse religions to flourish in relative harmony. But over the past year they have become increasingly concerned about the erosion of conscience protections for church-related individuals and institutions. Their top-rated program for assistance to human trafficking victims was denied funding for refusing to provide "the full range of reproductive services," including abortion. For a time, Catholic Relief Services faced a similar threat to its international relief programs. The bishops fear religious liberty is becoming a second-class right.

Goodbye Robin

Sad to hear about Robin Gibb's death. I grew up with the Bee Gees. I still have my first Bee Gee album, must be from 1968. "I started a Joke" is a favorite song..it reminds me of my youth, the early years...when I really needed to grow up.

Hunman Rights for All?

I am in Western Pennsylvania today, attending my godson's college graduation. I found this opinion in the local newspaper "The Tribune-Review." It is written by Kris Sanders / Squirrel Hill...I think it's an important read....

Since the late 1970s, the Chinese government's "one-child policy" has resulted in forced sterilizations and an estimated 400 million forced abortions. And only God knows how many of the women died because of the unsanitary conditions in which these crimes took place.

Blind self-taught lawyer Chen Guangcheng interviewed thousands of women who endured forced abortions, publicly denounced these atrocities and even attempted to sue the government on the victims' behalf. Consequently, for years, he and his family have been subjected to imprisonment, isolation, beatings and various other forms of torture. Of course, the Chinese government wants to hide his story. But are they the only ones who want to hide it?

While in China, Hillary Clinton said there are "universal human rights" that all governments should recognize. Quite so. But is the Obama administration, which has always supported the "right to choose" to kill the unborn, really an ally of universal human rights?

The Song of the Traveller by Thomas Merton

How light the heavy world becomes, when with transparent waters
All the shy elms and wakeful appletrees are dressed!
How the sun shouts, and spins his wheel of flame
And shoots the whole land full of diamonds
Enriching every flower’s watery vesture with his praise,
O green spring mornings when we hear creation singing!

The stones between our steps are radium and platinum
When, on this sacred day, sweet Christ, we climb Your hill;
And all the hours, our steps,
Pray us our way to the high top with silent music from the clouds
As each new bench-mark builds us to a quieter altitude,
Promising those holy heights where the low world will die.

Shall we look back out of this airy treasury
And spill the plenty that we have already in our hands
To view you, cities full of sorcery,
And count the regiments deployed on your grey plain
Where you lie boiling in your smoky wars?

For lo! the music of your treachery
Still plagues us with a sullen rumor in this sinless sun,
And your coarse voice still reaches us.
Sandpapering the silence of our atmosphere.
Shall we turn back to hear those far, far fragile trumpets play?

Let us but lean one moment to the witchery of your thin clarions
And all our flowery mountain will be tattered with a coat of weeds;
And the bright sun, our friend, turning to a prodigious enemy,
Will burn our way with curses,
Hardening our hesitation, in that instant, to a solid weight,

To bake us white as monuments, like Mistress Lot,
Saltpillars planted on the stony road from Sodom.

Quote of the Day - C..S. Lewis

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casketsafe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.

Arizona Defunds Planned Parenthood

Nice to wake up today to some good news. Arizona has "defunded" Planned Parenthood. God bless Arizona, God bless Governor Jan Brewer.

Planned Parenthood has insinuated themselves in the government subsidized delivery of "medical services" and receive massive government funding. Their web site tells visitors they are "America's most trusted provider of reproductive health care" Yet, there is nothing "reproductive" about abortion - and it is certainly not a service to the child, the mother, the father or society. They should be defunded and now Arizona has joined the growing number of States doing just that. Governor Brewer is to be commended for her proper action in signing the legislation.
