St. Paul speaks to the Ephesians, and to You and Me
I want to urge you in the name of the Lord, not to go on living the aimless kind of life that pagans live. Now that is hardly the way you have learnt from Christ, unless you failed to hear him properly when you were taught what the truth is in Jesus. You must give up your old way of life; you must put aside your old self, which gets corrupted by following illusory desires. Your mind must be renewed by a spiritual revolution so that you can put on the new self that has been created in God’s way, in the goodness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:17,20-24
Although I have always considered myself a "good" Catholic, certainly there have been times of aimlessness. But God is always there to show us the road - and He does that in many ways - one way is by the use of human instruments. Years ago there was a priest assigned to my parish. He was certainly a messenger from God. He was a graduate of West Point, a Ranger. Then he was called to the priesthood.
He recognized the need for good catechesis in our parish. He created and taught a course called "Basic Training." One class a week for a whole year - we studied Holy Scripture, Catechism , Vatican II, Moral Theology, the Saints and more...we had quizes, tests and papers. For the last class we read Scripture, primarily Matthew 25 - The Judgement of the Nations. On the last day of class, Father spoke about service to the poor. That is the day my life changed, and I found the Missionaries of Charity.
